Description
Figs are a delicious, easy care fruit in Florida. Our infamous root knot nematodes like fig roots, however, so we recommend planting sunn hemp in summer or mustard plants in winter around the roots and chopping them down in place when the sunn hemp gets a couple feet high, or the mustard matures. This will help prevent nematodes as these plants deter them, and will feed the tree as well. Figs like at least 6 hours of sun per day, and will grow and fruit much faster than if shaded. Like most fruit trees, figs will bear much more fruit if given manure each year or organic matter/compost, especially in our Florida sands.
